Comments Off on Hidden Gem. Oct 2013
Yesterday was my second time exhibiting at the Hidden Gem jewellery show for Dundee and Glasgow jewellery graduates and under graduates.
It is held in the conservatory of the newly refurbished Lansdowne Bar and Grill, once a month.
It is a good way of jewellers collaborating and creating a platform for new and exciting talent. As it grows and develops it could be an important feature in the Glasgow calendar and a place where jewellery lovers could buy original and unusual pieces at a very competitive price.
We would all love to see this grow into something big, if you would like to exhibit on a regular basis, please get in touch as we need your talent and it is a great way to show your work to friends and family.
Comments Off on Charity Event: Orkidstudio
Orkidstudio is a charity that builds functional builds in third world countries to help improved their living conditions.
I was exhibiting and thus contributing to this worthy cause at their Charity Event in Kilmacolm on Friday.
I created some new pieces, inspired by the painter Mondrian, for this event and introduce some new exciting colours. The voucher I donated to the Raffle was exchanged for a lovely pair of silver earrings.
my new collection will be included in my website very soon

My lovely daughter Rowan pointed out the error of my ways today, when she arrived back from Peru after her eight week elective,

Comments Off on Daily Record Press Release Sept 2013
I was recently approached by the Daily Record to talk about my recent transition from loving mum to designer, maker and owner of Helen Swan Designer Jewellery.
The article appeared last Friday, in the Record Woman section of the Daily Record, beside other stories of mums who have started a new fulfilling businesses later in life.
This is a great time to do such a thing, it’s stimulating, refreshing, and you can throw all your energy into it without distraction.
The Daily Record wanted a photograph of the three of us together, I sent them this one but unfortunately they did not print it so….
at the risk of really embarrassing my children Rowan and Cailean, I am showing you one of my favourite photographs of us.
I love being a mum but I also appreciate and love this opportunity that I now have.

My New Adventure.
Studio/workshop is open when others close.
Do you ever wish you could have workshop access in the evenings, weekends or just on your day off?
I know that feeling and because of this I have just created four workbenches and a brand new, well equipped Jewellers Studio in Glasgow’s Westend.
This can be leased on a regular or on a one off bases by Jewellers looking for bench space. There is easy access by train, bus and car and parking is no problem and FREE.

8th July 2013Studio upgrade. Helen Swan Designer Jewellery
I am upgrading my studio to complete the final transition from my long lived teaching post to fully self employed.
The Next Stage:
The water is finally in and connected. I can’t believe, after the mess made to my garden, that the builders have put it back so tidily. You’ll not see the big “L” in the grass eventually. Is that “L” significant I wonder?
The new way forward is infrared panels. It radiates heat around the room.
I have put mine on the ceiling to free up wall space but it could be mounted onto the wall and disguised as a mirror. It’s a great idea for anyone like me who hates radiators.
More updates coming soon I hope!!
